What a night!
Ah the ticket...one must never leave home without it. I don't know about you but I always check and check and check and check before leaving to make sure that I have it. Paranoia...

Let's Talk About The Day!
My best friend, Kim and I left at the outrageous hour of 5:30 a.m. on the morning of November 22nd. Fortunately for us the weather held out and we made the drive without incident. It was a bit overcast and rainy but overall we were pleased with the drive. We arrived in Fairfax at around 1 o'clock but man, was D.C. traffic ever heavy! Not to mention the George Mason University...home to The Patriot Center...is out in the boonies!! Hee-Hee! No offense to all of you out there! We got in line at around 1:30 and we met some really cool people. A gal from San Francisco, a dude from New York City and a couple from right there in Fairfax who promised my friends and I homemade pizza and lasagna next time we are in town. She is originally from Italy so if you are looking at this please e-mail so we can set up a date! I'm already hungry! To summarize...it's fun to go the distance when seeing Bob and it makes it even greater when you meet cool people some of which may become friends...I hooked up with some folks that I already knew from previous shows like my buddy Chandler. Take some time to get to know the folks you have something in common with.
Bob's Big Boy...somewhere along Highway 70...ah, America!
HERE WE ARE!!!!!
This is me and my friend Kim staking our place in line at The Patriot Center. We had a great time and as always met a lot of neat people. I'm an advocate of getting to know as many Dylan folks as possible because we all share something really cool.
IT WAS COLD!!!!! B-R-R-R!!!!!
THE SHOW!!!!
Since I was second in line at the West entrance I had a great shot at the stage. I was one person back from the rail and basically had an unobstructed view of our man. He came out blazing with Maggie's Farm and from the start he seemed right on and so enthusiastic. He moved with ease into I'll Remember You which is a beautiful song from Empire Burlesque. I tried hard to sing Madelyn Quebec's part in hopes that he would just rip me right out of the crowd to sing with him. That would've been something, huh? I'll not do play by play but a couple of observations worth going into. First, he did quite a bit of extended jamming on several songs notably High Water and Highway 61. I think he was feeling great and playing great and just wanted to show it. And he was right! Bob's singing this night was so incredibly on and even emotional that it was more moving than ever. He sang not only with his voice but his eyes and body language seemed to be connecting with everyone in the building. Bye and Bye and an incredible rendition of Mutineer was some of Bob's best singing, in my humble opinion, ever. Not only the singing but his playing! We've all seen the one note guitar solos but he was truly gettin' with it in Fairfax! Playing his little heart out on both guitar and piano. Just fantastic! Secondly, I have said this so many times but this band is beyond any words. It's not just that they are great musicians but they take such care with Bob's music. As if they are holding a fragile little flower that could bloom in front of your eyes at any moment. And it is a joy to watch Larry Cambell from both an artistic point of view and a simple human point of view. He plays as if he's happy about it and doesn't that make all the difference in the world? It does to me! The set list was fairly basic but they were going for it...all out! It was worth the trip...it was worth the standing in nearly freezing weather most of the day...I hope he doesn't keep us waiting too long.
